Hotels-Scanner released an international index of "star rating" travel preferences

Tourists and travelers from the US show a significant prudence: 37% of site visitors book 4* hotels and another 39% – 3*. In total, it is far more than for a number of European and Asian countries – only a quarter of Americans (24%) choose 5*.

Hotel aggregator Hotels-Scanner.сom published a study of traveler preferences from various countries. The report reflects the demand of citizens from various countries for hotels with different star ratings around the world.

They monitored reservations throughout 2014 and the first half of 2015, reflecting the choice of more than 60 thousand visitors of the site. The reservation requests of citizens from the 30 most active countries were analyzed in detail. The results show certain patterns and differences in the category preferences for accommodation from tourists in different countries. As experts from Hotels-Scanner

note, tourists and travelers from the US show a significant prudence: 37% of site visitors book 4* hotels and another 39% – 3*. In total, it is far more than for a number of European and Asian countries – only a quarter of Americans (24%) choose 5*. Japanese demonstrate similar demand for 5* hotels, but are nevertheless more committed to comfort, as they choose 4* more often that the Americans – 45% against 37%.

Leaders in booking the most luxurious hotels at the EU were Sweden (33%), Denmark (32%) and Norway (29%). Citizens of these countries also often give preference to 4* hotels and rarely stay at 3* hotels.

The greatest demand for 3* hotels – over 60% of reservations – is demonstrated by Asia and Eastern Europe. Thus, three stars

are chosen by 71% of travelers from Vietnam, 60% from Thailand, 63% from Hungary, 61% from Croatia and 60% from Poland. In addition, nationals of these countries book the 5* hotels in less than 15% of cases.

Interesting trends are also observed in Russia, which is in an economic crisis due to international sanctions. Last year, tourists from Russia have shown a 20% decline in booking 5* hotels, despite the fact that the total flow of people traveling abroad decreased by more than 40%. Now 28% of Russians prefer the 5* category. However, this is equivalent to reservations from Germany, whose citizens also prefer 5* only in 28% of cases.
